PostgreSQL Usergroup NL meetup 11 april

In 2020, Covid virus was responsible for the cancellation of a special meetup with Bruce Momjian, co-founder of PostgreSQL, long-time member of the PostgreSQL core team and VP of EnterpriseDB. Therefore, we are extra happy to invite you to a meetup with Bruce on April 11, 2023!

Furthermore, YOU have the chance to ask Bruce everything you’ve always wanted to know about PostgreSQL during a fireside chat. In this Q&A session, Bruce will answer questions from members of the Postgres Usergroup NL.

An Evening with Bruce

Derk van Veen of Adyen will start the evening with a presentation on the lessons learned of Adyen about Partitioning

After a short break, Bruce will take us through a presentation on “Postgres” Database, Containers, and the Cloud.

After Bruce’s presentation, YOU have the chance to ask Bruce anything you’ve always wanted to know about PostgreSQL during a fireside chat. In this Q&A session, Bruce will answer questions from members of the Postgres Usergroup NL.

We would like to ask you to submit the questions you have before April 5 so Bruce can prepare for the questions as well. You can submit these questions via the meetup portal but also by emailing gerard@optimadata.nl.

We are very grateful to Adyen for the hospitality to host us once again for this Meetup. We are looking forward to a great evening!

At Adyen we have invested and built a lot on the Postgres database engine, overall this has worked very well for us.

Bruce Monjian - Co-founder PostgreSQL

Partitioning a table starts very simply. In just a few commands, your table turns into a partitioned table. But when you try to perform maintenance under heavy load, it turns out to be not so easy.

In this session, I’ll discuss all our lessons learned, the pros and cons of standard partitions, and show how and when we cheat with our catalog to avoid (b)locking other transactions.

I will also discuss how partitioning affects performance in both good and really painful ways. The goal of the talk is to share best practices and lessons learned for managing Postgres from Adye high school and giving international lectures at universities.

We want to share this with the broader Postgres community because we think our DBAs will find it useful and we are also looking for feedback and possible further improvements.
