As you know, PGDay Lowlands is happening next Friday 13th of September. Registration is still open ( https://2024.pgday.nl/registration/ ).

PostgreSQL Usergroup NL Warmup Meetup Lowlands 2024

The Postgres Meetup group of the Netherlands

On Thursday, Sept 12, already the 3nd “PostgreSQL User Group NL” meetup of 2024, the PostgreSQL meetup group of the Dutch Postgres community!

Whether you are going to attend PGDay Lowlands or not, this event is open to all our community as a great opportunity to chat with some of the speakers and other attendees. We will start with a talk by Jonathan González, one of the main developers of CloudNativePG, who will talk about testing PostgreSQL with the operator, a talk that is well aligned with the “Testing PostgreSQL 17” initiative ( https://2024.pgday.nl/testing-pg/ ). We will continue with a talk by Bilge Ince, Machine Learning Engineer of EDB, who will be talking about her journey as a ML engineer using PostgreSQL, and how she is helping to build the aidb extension.

Deze PostgreSQL Meetup is on the same location as PGDay Lowlands 2024 on friday sept 13th. Food and drinks are provided and free, thanks to EDB!

Program

18:00 – 18:30 Doors open, pizza and drinks

18:30 – 18:40 Welkom by PGDay Lowlands!

18:45 – 19:15 Jonathan Gonzalez – Testing a PostgreSQL Commitfest patch in Kubernetes

“CloudNativePG is a kubernetes operator to manage the PostgreSQL lifecycle inside Kubernetes, most people will look at it as a Kubernetes tool only, but it can help also to quickly build and test a commit fest patch using the built-in E2E test the patch or just to build the image for later local use speeding up the process. The community provides a project that can be forked and used by anyone with a GitHub account, using the free tier runners for the entire automated process. From the community for the community”

19:30 – 20:00 Bilge Ince – Exploring aidb: Machine Learning Extension for PostgreSQL

In this talk, I want to explore the aidb extension that allows you to develop AI applications directly within PostgreSQL, with a demo of setting up and using a model. I’ll showcase a demo app and evaluate the difference using pgvector directly.

20:00 – 20:15 Lightning talks

20:15 –  Wrap up, chat and drinks

Lightning Talks

What are Lightning Talks?

A Lightning talk is a short presentation given at a conference or meetup. Unlike other presentations, Lightning Talks last only a few minutes and several are usually given in a short time slot by different speakers. Everyone has the opportunity to give their views, share a short topic or ask for input from the audience in the span of 1 slot.

During the PostgreSQL Usergroup NL meetups, through the Lightning Talks, we provide a low-threshold stage for participants to share their experience and knowledge.

Would you like to submit a Lighting Talk, do you have a short topic, would you like to share something within the PostgreSQL domain or what it touches? Send us an email with your suggestion, your topic, or just your name requesting a time slot and we will schedule you into the Lightning Talks! You can also put your name on the list on the night itself!
